The teachers practice conducting
On Saturday, 26 music educators from a variety of public and private schools and studios joined YPC Founder Francisco Núñez and guest clinician Dr. Joey Martin for a day of conducting, new music, rehearsal techniques, warm-ups and strategies for different levels of treble and men’s choirs.
YPC’s Concert Chorus joined the workshop for a few hours to demonstrate Dr. Martin techniques. Sessions were also given by Cara Tasher, Chris Landriau, conductor of the Trevor Day School Troubadours, and Dr. Joseph Ohrt, conductor of the Central Bucks High School West Men’s Choir. The teachers were able to try out their new skills during their observation of the All-City Young Men’s Honor Chorus rehearsal.
What was the most valuable part of the workshop? “Different harmonic
warm-ups and methods to get away from rote learning.” “Vocal
techniques for blend and balance.” “Conducting, because I’m
always behind the piano.” “Repertoire, vocalizes, commissioning
– everything was so on target.”
