Sue Fay Allen

Sue Fay Allen has taught all academic levels, including college. She retired from the Amherst Central School System, where she taught at Amherst Middle School, and was also Music Coordinator for the district. Over four hundred fifty students of the 700 students in the school elected to be in Sue Fay's four Choirs and six ensembles. Her Choral groups have been chosen through taped audition to perform at conventions of NYSSMA, ACDA and MENC. She is known for her dynamic workshops on adolescent voice. Through the years, she has guest conducted over fifty district, county, area all-states and festival choruses.

Ms. Allen is now the music director and founder of the Amherst Bel Canto Choirs, three choirs for 120 choristers, grades 4-12, selected from over twenty area schools. She founded and still directs Community Night at the Philharmonic, a program which enables schools to give pre-concert performances and attend Buffalo Philharmonic Concerts at Kleinhans Music Hall.

In recognition of her work she has received NYSSMA's "Distinguished Service in Music Education Award", Amherst's "Outstanding Teacher Award", Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's "Outstanding Contribution to Music Education Award" and the Erie County Music Educators Association's "Excellence in Music Education Award". Crane School of Music selected her as recipient of the "Helen Hosmer Award, in Recognition of Outstanding Professional Achievement in the Teaching of Music." Last summer she was chosen to receive the "Outstanding Choral Conductor Award" from NY's American Choral Director's Association.

Throughout her career her articles on adolescent voice and repertoire have been published by state and national musical journals and she served for four years as an editor of the national "Music Educators Journal". She is listed in Who's Who in American Teachers, Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in International Music and Musicians.

In her private life she is married to Carl Klingenschmitt, an electrical engineer. They live on a farm, and have four children and five absolutely perfect grandchildren.
