Sophia Miller
Assistant Conductor, YPC

Sophia Miller, Assistant Conductor for the award-winning Young People's Chorus of New York City, serves as conductor of the Prelude Division, assistant conductor of the Intermezzo and Cantare Divisions, and as vocal coach. Ms. Miller also teaches as part of the YPC’s Satellite Schools program, which brings the acclaimed YPC choral program into New York City public schools.
Most recently, Ms. Miller came from Ithaca, NY, where she taught elementary school general and choral music in the Cortland City School District, worked with other district music teachers to direct the Cortland City Boys Choir, and conducted the Children’s Choir and Youth Choir at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in downtown Ithaca.
Ms. Miller received her Bachelor of Music Education at Ithaca College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She studied conducting with Janet Galván, Lawrence Doebler, and Jennifer Haywood, and voice with Angus Godwin and Kelly Samarzea.
While at Ithaca College, Ms. Miller served as Associate Intern Conductor for the Ithaca Intergenerational Choir, a collaboration between Ithaca College, Longview residential senior community, and the Ithaca Children’s Choir. She also served on the board of the Ithaca College chapter of American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) for two years, coordinating lectures, workshops, and choral reading sessions to enhance professional development in choral singing, education, and conducting for undergraduate and graduate students.
