A Global Repertoire

This award-winning youth ensemble performs a wide-ranging and challenging repertoire ranging from classical, jazz and pop, and models multicultural respect through its wide-ranging, international repertoire. "I've sung in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Latin, Russian, Czech, Swahili, Sotho, Hebrew, Japanese, Inuit, Norwegian, Finnish...and even more that I can't remember," exclaims one young chorister. Learning musical idioms from different cultures helps to foster greater international understanding—and a deep respect and understanding for others.

A National Leader in Commissioning New Works

The YPC commissions original music in order to enlarge the repertoire and to bring attention to the possibilities of the children's, youth, and chamber chorus as a serious musical instrument.

YPC has a long history of commissioning and premiering exciting and challenging new works for young voices. More recently it has brought new works from major composers to a world-wide audience as part of its Transient Glory® series, which was created in 2001. The Transient Glory® concerts have since expanded to include workshops, publications, two recordings and recognition of the YPC as a groundbreaker in increasing the repertoire of children's chorus while spotlighting the diversity of contemporary music. The chorus has commissioned and premiered over 50 new pieces of music for children’s chorus by a “who’s who” of contemporary music composers. Equally important, composers have now become more aware of children’s voices as a serious, and indeed glorious, instrument for making music during that fleeting period of time when a child’s voice manifests a particular poignancy and innocence.

Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez has been successful in creating a new music series, published by Boosey and Hawkes, entitled "Transient Glory." Through this unique series, the YPC will continue to commission and now publish new works by the world's leading composers.
