Jon Holden has been principal pianist for the award-winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) since 1990. He has accompanied the ensemble in the world premiere of over 50 new works, many commissioned by the chorus for its Transient Glory series. He has accompanied the YPC for recordings, radio and television shows, hundreds of concerts worldwide, and competitions in which the YPC has won top prizes. He is a conductor in the YPC’s Satellite Schools program which brings the acclaimed YPC choral program to more than 1000 children in New York City public schools.
Mr. Holden has conducted the New York University Orchestra and has been music director and keyboardist of many theater works in New York City. He has accompanied hundreds of singers and choruses in concert and he is the pianist for the NYU Vocal Jazz Ensemble. An authority on the music of Paul Bowles, he has performed the composer’s music extensively and has undertaken revisions of his works.
Mr. Holden’s most influential teachers are Aldo Ciccolini and Seymour Bernstein. He holds a bachelors degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a performance diploma from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, a masters degree from Yale University, and a Ph.D from New York University, where he is currently a faculty member.
