


PERFORANCE DAY SESSIONS
Auditors Introduction This session will introduce the focus for the day, reflect on the previous evening concert, and be a singing warm-up.
Meet the Composers This session will introduce the composers featured on the evening concert and give a brief background.
Score Analysis This session will feature the Symposium Faculty demonstrating score analysis of the compositions featured on this evening's concert.
Conducting Master Class This session the Fellows conducting this evening will conduct for Francisco Nũńez and the composer of the selection with the Auditors serving as a demonstration choir.
Gab and Gobble Lunch Assigned seating groupings of Auditors from each of the three focus days will allow attendees to get to know new people, share, reflect, and discuss experiences, information, and topics they are exploring. A short presentation will be made each day on a different aspect of the question “Why Is Serious Music for Young Voices Important?”
Rehearse at Venue Fellows, Associates, and Auditors will travel to the venue for rehearsal of the evening concert. These rehearsals will feature the Fellow working with the Young People’s Chorus, the inclusion of the instrumentalists (including the JACK Quartet), lighting and sound checks, and the finalizing of performance details.

Transient Glory Reading Session, Part I Literature Day Auditors will enjoy receiving and reading through a packet of selections to broaden the repertoire of their choirs. Selections will include music from past Transient Glory© concerts, other selections previously performed by the Young People’s Chorus, and music representing a variety of genres for a variety of voicings.

Transient Glory Reading Session, Part II This session is a continuation of the Transient Glory Reading Session, Part I.
Singing Technique for Contemporary Music Many conductors are uncertain what singing techniques are needed and appropriate for performing contemporary music. This session will delve into the world of traditional bel canto singing technique and apply it to the performance of contemporary choral literature.
A New Role for Musical Elements Nontraditional notation. Dissonance. Unfamiliar tonality. Complicated rhythms. All can be found in contemporary serious music. This session will explore how the elements of music are used in contemporary compositions. Particular attention will be given to the roles of rhythm, meter, tonality, melody, harmony, and form.
Expressivity: Getting the Most Out of the Music Getting past the correct pitches and rhythms and to the artistry of a piece is always a challenge. How do you achieve this level of performance with music that is unfamiliar to the ear of the singer and listener? This session will look in depth at interpreting serious contemporary music artistically.

Selecting Serious Music Is it ‘which selection fits my choir?’ or ‘my choir would sound best on which selection?’ This session will look into the information need to select the correct piece of literature for your choir and to how to assess your choir in order to select the correct piece of literature. How to introduce a selection to your choir will also be addressed.

Conducting TG Style Conducting is a key factor in the successful performance of any literature. This session will give Auditors an opportunity to learn and practice advanced conducting techniques helpful in doing contemporary serious music.
Rehearsal Techniques for Modern Music You have selected the correct piece. You have studied and know the score. You have honed your conducting skills. Now it is time to step in front of the choir and run rehearsal. This session will give conductors as set of strategies, techniques, skills, and tips to running a successful rehearsal.
Putting It All Together, Part I The choral concert is a visual as well as aural experience for both singers and audience. Many contemporary choral compositions are enhanced with staging that may vary from the traditional concert. When is this appropriate? How can this be done? Where do I place this selection in the program so that it is effective and well received? This session will explore the challenges and rewards of staging and programming new music with your singers.
Putting It All Together, Part II Expanding the musical horizons of your singers with this new genre of music is only a part of the purpose of a giving a concert. The audience must also be taken into consideration when programming contemporary serious music. This session will explore the challenges and rewards of audience development and marketing to ensure an audience that is accepting, appreciative, and supportive.
